Mediterranean Meatballs with Tzatziki Sauce

Recipes that can be made into multiple versions of the same recipe are some of my favorite kinds. These Mediterranean Meatballs with Tzatziki Sauce is one of those recipes! Ground Turkey is substituted for beef for a healthier protein and mixed with all the flavors that make us think of Mediterranean food: Oregano, Dill, Cumin, Olive Oil, and Parsley!

Mediterranean Meatballs with Tzatziki Sauce

Tzatziki Sauce is one of those dips/ sauces that I could eat by the spoon full The creaminess of the yogurt and the fresh dill combine with cucumber to create a perfect accompaniment to bread, sandwiches, or these Mediterranean Meatballs! Its so easy to make, and will keep up to 5 days in the fridge. Mix together the following and let sit 20+ minutes to combine flavors as you cook the meatballs. It is best when it sits overnight.

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • ½ English Cucumber, grated and drained
  • 2 tbsp fresh dill (1 tbsp dried Dill)
  • 2 tsp Za’atar, optional
  • 1-2 Garlic Cloves, minced
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ¼ tsp Pepper
  • 2 tbsp. Vegetable Oil

One of the best things about this recipe that is that you can make the same base into meatballs or burgers! Depending on the serving size you are looking for (weeknight dinner burgers vs. party appetizer) you can adjust the size of the meatballs! To bring this meal together,

  1. Mix tzatziki sauce. Better yet, let’s the kids whip it up while you mix the meat.
  2. Combine uncooked ground turkey with seasonings and form into meatballs (small or big) or burger patties.
  3. Cook turkey meatballs, top with tzatziki and fresh dill, and enjoy.

Za’tar Seasoning can be found at the store in the seasoning isle. It is great in Greek Salads, sprinkled on Feta cheese with olive oil, and delicious on eggs!

Freezing Tips: These Mediterranean Meatballs with Tzatziki Sauce are very freezer friendly. Let meatballs cool completely and place in a freezer bag in a single layer. Lay out the bag on a plate, or cooking sheet and place in the freezer. Make the tzatziki sauce fresh, will keep in the fridge for up to 5 days.
